Celebrating a Life of Faith, Service, and Love

This site is a space to honor and remember the life of my dad, Michael “Mike” Macko. In place of a public memorial, this page offers a way for all of us – near and far – to grieve together, celebrate his life, and hold on to the stories and memories that made him so special. If you knew him, you probably remember his corny jokes, his kindness, or the way he was always willing to help without being asked.

I’d love for you to share a memory, photo, or even a few kind words in the comments. Your reflections will bring lasting comfort to our family, we’ll treasure them in the days and years to come. If you have pictures to share, please use the contact form, thank you!

I am very sad to read of Mike’s passing in the paper today. I worked with Mike at the health district for many many years. He was the kindest heart and always worked with a smile on his face and willing to do anything to help. He loved his family dearly and spoke of them often. He truly and genuinely cared about the people he worked with. He enjoyed his corny jokes and he ALWAYS brought a smile to my face EVERY time we met or talked. He was one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever known. I wish I was able to say goodbye. I’m so sorry the world will be without him and my heart goes out to his family. Tiffany Turner.

You will be missed Uncle Mike. We have some great memories of you when we were kids with Great Grandma and Grandpa in Goldendale. You were a genuinely good and kind person.

To Mike’s wife, kid’s, and family- I’m sorry to hear of your loss. I also worked with Mike at the health department. Mike had a way of making sure everyone felt welcome. I will miss his jokes and reviews of all the books he enjoyed, whether in print or audio. Mike, it was a pleasure my friend. Until we cross paths again.

For my mother, Sung-im Starman (nee Kim)

She met Mike through a friend who went to Inland Empire School of the Bible and Fourth Memorial Church. They became close friends and talked a lot about life and what was going on in his life at the time. Some of those conversations happened when he would go with her on cleaning jobs to help.
She wasn’t in contact with him these past years, but he always came to mind fondly and his kindness, gentleness, and warmth was a constant memory of him.

    For myself, Michele Pentilla:

I met Mike through my mother. I remember my mother shared the Gospel with me and I accepted Jesus and wanted to get baptized. Mike was the one who arranged all of that for me as an 11 yo girl. My memory of him is the same, kind and gentle with silly Dad humor.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Mike’s family. And while we grieve not being able to see or talk to him on this side, we do rejoice that he is with Jesus and am sure being told “Well done good and faithful servant”, and spreading ALL the Dad jokes with all of heaven.

I am deeply saddened by Mike’s passing. He was just as described by his family- kind, sweet, polite and uplifting. His kindness and spirit lifted my soul every time I got to see him. I will miss his regular visits at Arby’s, where we have re-connected since we first met in homeroom in high school. Bless your soul Mike, and prayers to your loving family. You lived your life as a perfect example of the fruit of the spirit- Galatians 5:22-23.

One of Mike’s Favorite Verses – Philippians 3:7–16

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do—forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20
